Quick answer

To plan a bachelor party weekend without the chaos, settle the budget per person first, book a house whose rules fit what you actually plan to do, and build each day around one anchor activity. Sort transport and money before anyone travels. The house is the base for the group, not a party venue.

Key takeaways

  • Agree the budget per person before the city or the house, and say up front whether the group covers the groom.
  • Read the house rules before booking. Our homes allow no parties or events unless we approve them in writing, and only the booked number of guests may stay.
  • Plan one anchor activity a day, such as golf, a lake day or a game, and one big night, then leave the rest open.
  • Sort transport before the trip: who drives from the airport, how many cars the house can park, and rides for the night out.
  • Name one organizer for money and one for the schedule, and put everything in one pinned message.

Start with the groom, then the budget

Ask the groom what kind of weekend he wants and who he wants there, then set a budget per person before you choose anything else.

A golf weekend, a lake weekend and a big city weekend cost very different amounts, and the guest list decides the size of the house. Once you know both, build a simple estimate and share it with the group before anyone commits. People drop out over surprise costs far more often than over dates.

CostHow to estimate itWho usually pays
HouseTotal for your dates with cleaning fee, service fees and taxesSplit by paying guests
Groceries and drinksBreakfasts, lunches, snacks and one cookout at the houseSplit

Collect each share of the house when you book and the rest two to four weeks before the trip. An expense app keeps the running total in one place, and our guide to splitting costs on a group vacation rental covers deposits and what happens when someone drops out.

Know the house rules on parties before you book

Most rental homes limit parties and visitors, and ours are clear about it, so read the rules before you pay.

Every JekkyStay home page lists the same base house rules: "The primary guest must be at least 25 on the check-in date. No parties or events unless JekkyStay approves them in writing. Only the booked number of guests may stay. Respect the home, neighbors and all property-specific house rules." Some homes add their own. The Roseville home says "No parties or unauthorized events." The Lake Anna home says "No smoking or parties on the premises, deck or grounds." Five homes allow a maximum of 16 overnight guests and Antioch allows 15.

A bachelor group staying in the house is welcome. What causes trouble is the extra: friends who come over for the night, a DJ, a hired performer, or music outside late. If you plan anything beyond the booked group, ask us before booking. Our FAQ puts it simply: house rules differ by home and by city, and you should ask before booking if you are planning an event.

Platforms and cities set the same line. Airbnb's guest standards ask guests to respect the approved number of overnight guests, check with the host before bringing extra visitors and respect quiet hours, and say disruptive gatherings are prohibited. In Houston, the city's short-term rental ordinance prohibits rentals from advertising as event spaces and sends noise complaints to the Houston Police Department.

Plan one anchor activity a day

The weekends that run smoothly have one planned activity a day, one big night and plenty of time at the house.

A simple shape for a Friday to Sunday trip:

  • Friday: arrive, settle in, a cookout at the house, a toast and a game.
  • Saturday daytime: the anchor activity, such as golf, a lake day, fishing or a game, then rest.
  • Saturday evening: the group dinner, then out, with rides already booked.
  • Sunday: a slow breakfast at the house, a clean-up, and out by check-out time.

Book the anchor activity and the dinner as soon as the dates are set. Confirm prices, tee times and hours on the provider's own site, and check the official site for this year's dates if your plan depends on an event.

Activities by market

Each of our six markets suits a different kind of bachelor weekend, and the house you choose should fit the activity.

MarketAnchor activity ideasThe house
KissimmeeGolf, theme parks, a pool dayPrivate screened pool, spa, game room, outdoor dining
HoustonA game, a big city night out, Space Center HoustonHot tub, game room, covered patio, BBQ grill
Lake AnnaBoating, bass fishing, a beach day at the state parkLake access, inflatable hot tub, movie lounge, game room
SacramentoWine country, river days, a night out downtownSeven bedrooms, gated one-acre grounds, BBQ grill
RosevillePlacer County wineries, a Lake Tahoe dayMovie theater, pool table, ping pong, private backyard
AntiochDelta fishing and boating, Bay Area tripsIndoor fireplace, coffee bar, garage parking

Kissimmee is the golf pick. Experience Kissimmee lists courses including ChampionsGate Golf Club, Reunion Resort, Falcon's Fire and Celebration Golf Club, so a group can play in the morning and be back at the screened pool by afternoon. For days off the course, see things to do in Kissimmee besides theme parks.

Houston suits a group that wants a game and a big night out. Our guides cover where to stay for a game at NRG Stadium and things to do in Houston with a large group.

Lake Anna is the slow weekend. Virginia State Parks says Lake Anna State Park has a public boat ramp, an unguarded swimming beach and a lake known for largemouth bass, crappie and bream, with a Virginia fishing license required to fish. See things to do at Lake Anna.

Sacramento and Roseville work for a Northern California group that wants wine, a river or a mountain day. Try the Placer County wine trail, a Lake Tahoe trip from Roseville or day trips from Sacramento. Antioch fits a smaller group: it has two shared full bathrooms and a dining table for six, and it is close to Delta boating and fishing.

Get transport right

Transport is where most bachelor weekends lose time, so plan it before the trip, not on the night.

Work out three things:

  1. Getting there. Who flies, who drives, and who collects whom from the airport. Group arrivals into one or two cars, and share flight times in the group chat.
  2. Parking. Ask how many cars the house can take. Our home pages list parking, such as free parking on premises or garage parking, but a group of 16 in eight cars will not fit most driveways.
  3. The night out. Book a driver or a large rideshare ahead of time, agree who is not drinking if anyone is driving, and set a pickup time and place before you leave the house.

Run it with two organizers

One person for the money and one for the schedule keeps a big group organized without putting it all on the best man.

The money organizer books the house, collects shares, tracks spending and settles up after. The schedule organizer books the activity and dinner, handles transport and sends the pinned message. Both have the host's contact details. If something at the house stops working, our Stay Promise covers direct bookings: "If the home isn't as described, or something important stops working, such as the air conditioning or heat, hot water, Wi-Fi or the pool, tell us. If we can't fix it within 24 hours, we refund the nights affected or move your group to a similar home."

The bottom line

Agree the budget per person first and cover the groom's share. Read the house rules before you book: our homes allow no parties or events without written approval, and only the booked guests may stay. Build each day around one anchor activity, book rides before the night out, and give two people the money and the schedule. Then pick the market and house that fit the weekend the groom wants.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a bachelor party weekend cost per person?

It depends on the city, the dates, the house and the activities. Add the house total with fees and taxes, groceries and drinks, one group dinner, one or two paid activities and rides, then divide by the paying guests. Most groups also split the groom's share.

Can we throw a party at a JekkyStay home for a bachelor weekend?

Not without our written approval. The house rules on every home page say no parties or events unless JekkyStay approves them in writing, and only the booked number of guests may stay. Some homes add their own rules, such as no parties on the premises, deck or grounds. Ask us before booking if you plan anything beyond the group staying.

How old do you have to be to book a JekkyStay home?

The primary guest must be at least 25 on the check-in date. That person signs the rental agreement and accepts the house rules for the whole group.

How many people can stay for a bachelor weekend?

Up to the home's maximum. Five of our homes allow a maximum of 16 overnight guests and the Antioch home allows 15. Guests who are not on the booking cannot stay overnight.

What are good bachelor party activities near your homes?

Golf around Kissimmee, a game or a big night out in Houston, boating and fishing at Lake Anna, wine country and Lake Tahoe trips from Roseville and Sacramento, and Delta fishing near Antioch. Book the main activity as soon as the dates are set.

How far ahead should we plan a bachelor weekend?

Three to six months ahead for the house and the main activity, and earlier for holiday weekends or a city with a big event. Send the dates and an estimated cost per person as soon as the groom agrees them.
